1. Guidelines for Foreign Nationals Applying for Short-Term Stay Visa for Medical Treatment in Taiwan
- Completed visa application form (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw/BOCA_EVISA/)
- Passport with at least 6 months validity
- Two passport-size photo taken within the last six months
- Proof of medical treatment in Taiwan, such as a medical certificate or letter from a hospital in Taiwan.
- Proof of financial means to cover the cost of medical treatment and stay in Taiwan, such as bank statements or a letter of guarantee from a sponsor
- Flight itinerary or proof of transportation arrangements
- Proof of accommodation arrangements in Taiwan, such as hotel reservations or a letter of invitation from a host in Taiwan
- Please note that additional documents may be required depending on the applicant’s country of origin and individual circumstances.
2. The steps to apply for a short-term stay visa for foreign nationals seeking medical treatment in Taiwan:
- Complete the visa application form and prepare all required documents.
- Submit the application and all required documents to the nearest Taiwan embassy or representative office.
- Pay the visa processing fee.
- Wait for the visa application to be processed.
- If approved, collect the visa from the embassy or representative office.
- Please note that processing times may vary depending on the embassy or representative office, and additional documents or information may be requested during the application process.
3. Notes to keep in mind:
- Visa issuance is an act of national sovereignty, and the government of the Republic of China has the right to refuse issuance without giving any reason. Regardless of whether a visa is issued, the visa application fee paid is non-refundable by law.

- The types of diseases for which a visa can be applied for on the grounds of receiving medical services in Taiwan shall be based on the list of “Diseases for which Foreigners and Mainland Chinese Residents May Receive Medical Services in Taiwan (PDF)” announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
- Domestic medical institutions are limited to “Member Institutions of the Internationalization Promotion Program for Medical Services” announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
- As a general rule, two relatives within three degrees of kinship to the patient, such as a spouse or siblings, may accompany the patient. If necessary, two medical personnel from the patient’s country of residence may also be added to provide care. Applicants may provide proof of family relationship or a certificate of dispatch from a medical service unit to apply for a visa to accompany the patient for medical treatment.
- Applications for emergency medical visas can be submitted to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by medical institutions in Taiwan.
