Precautions after Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) or Balloon Angioplasty with Stent Placement-via the wrist

  1. The wrist incision will be compressed with a hemostatic device and protective dressing for eight hours. If you notice any bleeding through the gauze or experience coldness, discoloration, or pain in the fingertips, please inform the nurse immediately for reapplication of pressure.
  2. You can eat and get out of bed once you return to the ward. When getting out of bed for the first time, make sure someone accompanies you to prevent dizziness or falls due to postural hypotension.
  3. Nurses will regularly measure your blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and monitor the condition of the incision. If you feel any discomfort or experience swelling, numbness, or a warm sensation in your limbs, promptly notify the healthcare personnel.
  4. After returning to the room, you can start with a small amount of water. If there is no nausea or vomiting, you can proceed with eating. You may feel dryness in the mouth due to the contrast agent used during the procedure. If there are no contraindications, increasing your water intake can help flush out the contrast agent.
  5. On the day after the procedure, the nursing staff will change the dressing for your incision. Keep the incision clean and dry. Bruising may occur near the incision, but it should gradually fade within two to three weeks. Any mild discomfort at the incision site will also resolve during this time.
  6. Within one week after discharge, you can engage in light activities but avoid lifting weights exceeding 2 kilograms with the puncture limb.
  7. If you experience any discomfort after discharge, please return to the cardiology outpatient clinic or emergency department.
  8. There is no need to change the dressing on the following day after discharge. However, if you notice redness, swelling, or signs of infection at the incision site, it is important to promptly return to the hospital for a follow-up appointment.
