Precautions for Abdominal Pain

  1. Causes:

There are many causes of abdominal pain, and the condition can change rapidly, making it difficult to diagnose within a short period. Even if the symptoms improve, you should continue to observe them at home. For your safety, if you experience the following symptoms, please seek immediate medical attention at the hospital:

  • Intensification of symptoms or pain shifting to the lower right abdomen.
  • Presence of fever or persistent fever.
  • Cold sweats, pale complexion, or even changes in consciousness.
  • Inability to eat, vomiting blood, or the presence of black or bloody stools.
  • Rapid breathing or accelerated heartbeat.
  1. Precautions:
  • During the acute phase, fasting for 6-8 hours (including water) is recommended to allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest. If necessary, the doctor may prescribe intravenous fluid to replenish hydration and electrolytes.
  • If the abdominal pain improves, consult a doctor before deciding whether to eat.
  • Consume a light diet, such as congee and plain toast, in small and frequent meals. Avoid oily and spicy foods, as well as stimulants like tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea. Avoid gas-producing foods such as beans and dairy products.
