Tips for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Care

  • Urinary Tract Infection: Any infection affecting the organs of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, urethra, bladder, or infections caused by congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract, such as urethritis, cystitis, or pyelonephritis.
  • Precautions:
  1. Symptoms: Symptoms may include a burning sensation during urination, frequent urination, blood in the urine, fever, chills, lower abdominal pain, and back pain.
  2. Treatment: Follow the doctor’s instructions to increase fluid intake, promote urination, and take antibiotics. If there is fever, take antipyretics and pain relievers as directed by the doctor.
  3. Increase intake of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C (e.g., orange juice, citrus fruits, cranberry juice, etc.).
  4. Drink plenty of water. In addition to regular meals, consume an additional 2000-3000 mLof water per day to dilute urine and reduce the risk of infection (unless water restriction is required).
  5. Avoid consuming spicy foods such as curry, mustard, chili peppers, garlic, pepper, and alcohol.
  6. Maintain good personal hygiene, change underwear frequently (preferably cotton underwear).
  7. Avoid using bleach or strong laundry detergents when washing clothes, and ensure thorough cleaning. Do not wash underwear together with socks.
  8. Respond promptly to the urge to urinate and avoid holding urine. After using the toilet, females should wipe from front to back (from the urethral opening toward the anal opening).
  9. Women should pay special attention to hygiene and dryness of the perineum during menstruation.
  10. Avoid sexual intercourse when experiencing symptoms of a urinary tract infection.
  11. Take showers instead of baths to reduce the risk of infection.
  12. During the infection period, follow the doctor’s instructions for medication and do not discontinue the treatment on your own to prevent recurrence or antibiotic resistance.
